What is Aromatherapy ?
Aromatherapy is a Complementary therapy which is used to relieve many symptoms of emotional, physical and mental ailments, through the use of essential oils. These oils are extracts from plants and flowers and are completely natural. The essential oils are either inhaled or absorbed through the skin during massage and connect with the limbic system of the brain, this is the part of our brain which controls mood, emotion, stress level and memories. It is believed that the oils positively influence our emotional and physical wellbeing aswell as strengthening our immune system, therefore treating the whole person and not just the symptom or disease. Complementary therapy is something that may be used alongside any medication treatment you might be recieving.
How might it help me ?
Regular use of Aromatherapy massage and home use products like aromatic baths and oils added to a diffuser can help strengthen the immune system. As essential oils can influence our emotions, Aromatherapy can help with pain, insomnia, anxiety and depression, soothe irritability and generally encourage a more positive state of mind. Often as a result of being stresed you may suffer bachache, irritable bowel syndrome or headaches. By looking at the causes of stress the Aromatherapist will be able to provide treatments to ease and manage it
